There are MANY directories and third-party web sites where you can list your products, web site descriptions or list your services. Some are paid either with a flat-fee or on a ppc basis and some are free. With a little research based on your target audience and how you can best serve them, you may find an exciting new sales channel.

For example if your site’s focus is on gifts and is strong in gift giving services you might find a web site like gifts.com to be a valuable avenue to increase sales. If your site is primarily B2B you might find a directory like Business.com a place for gathering leads. Remember, when you are researching, look for reputable sites that have a good amount of traffic and remember who your target market is. You don’t just want a link back to your web site, you want people to follow that link and to be able to use it to pull them into the buying cycle.

Submit to Search Engines and Directories

Submit your site to every search engine relevant to your site. It’s free and will start the ball rolling.

Anchor Links and Inbound Linking

If you are going to link to an external web site from your home page use the “no follow” tag in your anchor link so the search engines know that you’re not validating the site you’re linking to.

For example, this is how the HTML markup for an ordinary link might look:

<a href=http://www.site.com/page.html>http://www.site.com/page.html</a> My Page

After the nofollow tag has been added it would look like this:

http://www.site.com/page.html My Page

·      Negotiate links from news, blog and industry specific web sites that seem to be popular.

·      Do not buy a link from a link farm that you link back to. In fact, don’t link to any link farm site or a site that has no Page Rank. It can actually bring your site Rank down.

·      You want to add several new high quality links to your web site on a regular basis. It’s assumed by most SEO experts that the value of a link degrades over time so you’ll want fresh links. Whenever possible make sure the link has a keyword in the text of the link.
