Privacy Protection
Your customer’s privacy with your company should be one of the biggest parts of
your value proposition – ie. Who you are and what you value. It’s your way of letting
the guest know you place a high priority on keeping their information private and
secure. In short, it states that you will not sell their information and your system
is truly secure from hackers. When customers come to your site they should experience
a site that will build their confidence and their trust.
As well a browser like Internet Explorer has requirements of its own for a release
of a session cookie based on a user's Privacy Options (Figure PP.01).
A session cookie will allow the web site to track the state of a user in all most
all cases will determine if a sale can even commence. Some web sites will not function
at all without something as simple as a session cookie. More sophisticated solution
can create a value in the URL dynamically if users did not support cookies.
Using a Company Policy which is installed on your web server lets the browser know
what your policies are and that your site is not going to sell information and therefore
it’s okay to allow at least a session cook
