Web site Content
– This includes the actual
words on the page of your web site. It’s the language you use to convey information
to the guest who is visiting your site. It’s the detailed description of the products
you sell or in the specifications of your service. If you look at each page on your
site, individually, you’ll see an opportunity for providing content that is rich
and ready to be indexed by the search engines.
Here’s our recommended list of best practices in creating your web site pages.
1. Research phrases people are looking for and using when looking for your product.
Wordtracker offers a valuable, easy to use service.
2. Page content should be between 300-500 words
3. Pick up search phrases and keywords associated with the product or service you are selling on that page
4. Use search phrase in a way that makes sense and flows naturally.
5. Product Descriptions -
Make the product descriptions neat and clean with unique keywords for that product.
6. Use Title Tags
Keep title tags unique while reinforcing the
topic of the page.
· Google displays 60 characters with the ability
to index 100 characters but the importance is placed within the first 60 characters
· Title Tags are the Most Important On Page Element
· Title Tags are the First impression on search engines and users
7. Keyword Meta Tags -
Add in keywords to help assist in Yahoo rankings
· Keep between 7 – 48 words
· Separate keywords by commas ex. <meta name=“keyword"
content=“phrase 1, phrase 2, etc,”>
· Avoid keyword spamming
· Use to reinforce the topic of individual pages
8. Description Meta Tags -
Use this tag to reinforce the topic of the page and double as the description listed
in the search results rather than content pulled from the page copy.
· Keep between 12 – 24 words
· Use a short descriptive sentence
· Avoid using more than 2 commas
· Incorporate targeted keywords
· Do not use an exact sentence from the page
content
9.Internal Links & Navigation
· Reinforce the main targeted phrase with absolute
links to the root level domain throughout the site. ex. http://www.yoursitename.com”>
Your Site Name
· Avoid Dynamic URLs, multiple URL’s (please see
URL Rewriting below)
· When creating new page names use hyphens (-)
while avoiding underscores (_) spaces ( %20 ) and dynamic variables
10. Image Optimization
· Use ALT Tags - Your Images should have keywords
embedded in the ALT Tags.
· Keep files sizes low
