Sell to US businesses from your own B2B store.
Marketplaces rent you buyers. Your own store keeps them: their accounts, their prices and their reorders. We build BigCommerce B2B stores for manufacturers and wholesalers outside the US that sell to American businesses, set up the way those buyers actually purchase.
Why your own store, not only a marketplace
Marketplaces are the fastest way to be seen, and they stay useful. The catch is ownership: the buyer relationship, the data and the reorder belong to the platform, and the leads slow down when the ad spend stops. Your own B2B store is slower to build traffic, but it becomes an asset you keep.
- Marketplace: Fast to start and traffic included, with ongoing fees and ads. Buyer data stays with the platform, and an account can be suspended.
- Your own B2B store: Slower to build traffic, but the domain, the buyer accounts, the pricing and the order history are yours.
- Both: Keep the marketplace for discovery and move repeat buyers to your own store for contract pricing and reorders.
What US business buyers expect
US buyers increasingly want to buy without a sales call. In a Gartner survey published in March 2026, 67% of B2B buyers said they prefer a rep-free experience. A Sana Commerce survey of 750 buyers in the US and five other countries found 40% name unclear stock and delivery dates as their top frustration, and 64% expect their negotiated prices to show online.
- Their price after login: Price lists per company, not one public price for everyone.
- Stock and lead times they can trust: Real availability and ship dates from your ERP or inventory system.
- Datasheets and drawings: Engineers rank datasheets as the most valuable supplier content (79% in GlobalSpec's 2025 survey), with CAD drawings second.
- Quotes and purchase orders: Request a quote for volume, then buy on a purchase order with payment terms set per account.
- A site that looks maintained: Clear US English, current pages and a real way to reach you. GlobalSpec's survey found an informative, well-maintained website is the top credibility signal.
Why we build it on BigCommerce
BigCommerce is a US SaaS platform, so there are no servers for you to run. B2B Edition adds company accounts with buyer roles, quotes, purchase orders, invoices paid on net terms, shared shopping lists and a buyer portal.
- Plan: B2B Edition and price lists sit on BigCommerce's Performance plan, which was called Enterprise until BigCommerce renamed its plans in June 2026. It is priced by quote.
- Payments: Settle how US buyers will pay (card, ACH, wire or invoice on terms), which gateway you will use and which company receives the money before the build starts. BigCommerce lists Adyen, BlueSnap and Alipay among the gateways for merchants in China, and Airwallex offers a BigCommerce app.
- ERP and inventory: Prices, stock and orders sync with your ERP, so US buyers see what you can actually ship. See BigCommerce ERP integration.
- US English: Product and category copy should read as if written for US buyers: US units, US spelling and the terms they search for, not a translated catalog.
Structured product data built this way is also what AI shopping agents read. Our guide to agentic commerce explains why that matters for B2B.
The US rules to settle before launch
This is not legal or tax advice; your customs broker and US tax adviser own the final answer. These are the points to settle before your first US order.
- Duties and de minimis: Duty-free de minimis entry for low-value shipments has been suspended for every country since 29 August 2025, and a 2025 US law repeals it from 1 July 2027. Price with duties in mind and state your Incoterms clearly.
- Tariffs: US tariffs, including those on Chinese goods, changed several times in 2025 and 2026. Check the current rate for your products' HTS codes with a customs broker before you publish prices.
- Sales tax: Since the Supreme Court's 2018 Wayfair decision, states can require remote sellers to collect sales tax. California and Texas set the threshold at $500,000 a year, and California's rules explicitly include sellers outside the US. Wholesale buyers who resell usually give you a resale certificate, so the store needs tax-exempt accounts.
- Accessibility: Seyfarth Shaw counted 3,117 federal website accessibility lawsuits in 2025, and the Department of Justice says the ADA applies to web content. Build to WCAG 2.2 AA from the start.
How a project runs
The same five phases we use for every build. We write decisions down, which makes working across time zones easier; our team is in the United States and Manila, and Manila shares China's time zone.
- Discovery: Your products, buyers, pricing rules, ERP and payment setup, ending in a written scope and estimate.
- Design: Catalog structure, company account rules, quote and checkout flows, and the pages US buyers need to trust you.
- Build: BigCommerce store and B2B Edition setup, catalog import and the ERP integration.
- Ship: Test orders on real accounts, tax and shipping checks, accessibility checks, and redirects if you are moving from an old site.
- Support: Updates, integration monitoring and changes as you add products, buyers and markets.
Questions exporters ask
Can a company outside the US run a BigCommerce store?
Yes. BigCommerce supports merchants outside the US and a wide choice of payment gateways; for merchants in China it lists Adyen, BlueSnap and Alipay, and Airwallex offers a BigCommerce app. Settle which company receives payments and which gateway you use before the build starts.
Should we stop selling on marketplaces?
Usually not. Keep marketplaces for discovery and use your own store for repeat buyers, contract pricing and reorders, where the margin and the customer data stay with you.
What does BigCommerce B2B Edition cost?
BigCommerce does not publish a price for it. B2B Edition and price lists come with the Performance plan, formerly called Enterprise, which is priced by quote. The self-serve plans start at $29 a month billed annually but do not include B2B Edition.
Do we have to collect US sales tax?
It depends on where your buyers are and how much you sell there. States can require remote sellers to collect sales tax once they pass a threshold, and California and Texas use $500,000 a year. Sales for resale are usually exempt with a resale certificate. Confirm with a US tax adviser before launch.
Can we still ship small orders duty-free?
No. Duty-free de minimis treatment has been suspended for shipments from every country since 29 August 2025, and a 2025 US law repeals it from 1 July 2027. Price small orders with duties included or clearly excluded.
Tell us what you make and who buys it.
Send us your product range, your current site or marketplace store, and the US buyers you want to reach. We will tell you honestly whether a BigCommerce B2B store is the right fit.
